The First Brave Robin
/This morning we witnessed the first brave robin leave the nest. We watched both parents lead him around as he walked and started flapping his wings. I couldn’t stop crying, it was so beautiful. The mama and papa worked so hard today. Teaching this first and later a second robin how to navigate their world outside the nest.
So grateful that it happened today. On the 45th anniversary of my Grandpa Neal’s passing is just the most beautiful sign from Above. So of course, we named this one Neal.
At one point, hours into watching them out the window, I saw the parents looking around for him and the mama making a loud persistent tweet. I found him in a wooded patch across the street and shooed him back home. They came to him as soon as I walked away.
It was so sweet seeing him go from an awkward flyer to more confident. I didn’t think I would get to fluff his wings today, but I followed my intuition. Found him right away and it all worked out.
Later I tried to take a pic of the single bird that was still in the nest, but mama dove at me at me and showed her boundaries. It was the evening by this time and I think she was drained. Bc right after that she dove at a squirrel and knocked him out of the tree he was climbing. It was wild!! I’ll be sticking to window watching. So much respect for this mama and papa. They did so good today. And the little ones... crying again... are the most precious things in the world.
Oh and Neal pooped on Mike! Ha! Good luck and so sweet!!!
So grateful for this day.
